This past weekend, we flew to Chicago for 48 hours. Reggie attended the AAO meeting, which of course was a perfect excuse for a quick get away. Here is what we did…First we packed some California sun and sprinkled it all over Chicago so we could have unseasonably mild weather, perfect for strolling Michigan Avenue. With no agenda other than Reggie attending his courses during the day we had a weekend full of spontaneity. We landed about 4 on Friday after a pleasant flight on Virgin America, our favorite airline.
We checked into the Avenue Crown Plaza hotel, dropped our bags, and quickly found our way to Karyn’s take away, where I had a delicious green smoothie. While we were there a woman walked in and recognized Reggie and I from Facebook, the power of social media never ceases to amaze me.
That evening we met friends at Karyn’s on Green. Karyn Calabrese is a phenomenal vegan chef, I had her food almost four years ago and never forgot.
Saturday Reggie went to his course and I walked around and explored the area.
I decided why not, take a horse drawn carriage around downtown.
Love this exhibit at MOCA, the lit massive MOTHERS sign rotated slowly, a nice lady took this shot of me at the right moment.
Of course I did a lot of window shopping.
Picked up this pretty at Anthropologie, it will be perfect for the holidays.
Saturday night we met friends once again at Karyn’s on Green, yes we love that place, and as vegans, it is nice to dine at a gourmet fine dining vegan spot.
Sunday I just meandered around the area a little of what I observed.
We met Imani and her husband and finished our visit with a Ethiopian feast.
After some interesting conversation with our friends who graciously drove us to the airport, our 48 hours quickly came to an end. These quick 48 hour weekend jaunts can be really special and you really can pack a lot in to a couple of days. Yes, it is nice to take the long week 2 week trips, but I find the little weekend getaways fun too. What is your preference? And what are some of your favorite weekend getaways?
Xoxo,
Gigi
